A Fulani man, Isah Buruku, has been arrested by the Oyo State Poilce Command over alleged rape and robbery of women who stand by the road side and look to be given free rides, otherwise known as 'lift'.
The 26-year-old Buruku was also docked for unlawful possession of an English double-barrel gun.
While
parading the suspect among other criminals, the state Commissioner of
Police, Muhammad Musa Katsina, told journalists that Buruku had been on
the wanted list of the police for the offence of armed robbery and rape
in Igbeti town and its environs.
His cup was finally full when he was arrested at Bakasse, a border village between Kwara and Oyo States.
The
CP further mentioned that Buruku who lives in Igbeti, had a Volkwagen
Golf car and used to go to Gambari community to relax where trailer and
tanker drivers and other commuters have a stop over before going to the
northern part of Nigeria.
At such points, there are also some ladies who wait to hitch free rides and those were usually his victims.
According
to the police, Buruku's modus operandi was that he would have taken his
time to study the young ladies seeking for a free ride.
From
there, he was said to have come up with a method of approaching any
young lady waiting on the highway, pretending as if he wanted to assist
her. He would convince the lady that it would be difficult to get a ride
easily at that point, offering to help such a lady to Eyenkorin in
Kwara State where she would get a vehicle faster and cheaper.
While
in the car, the suspect who is married with two children, would offer
the lady some drinks which, unknown to her, had been laced with drugs
that would induce sleep.
After the lady must have slept, he would allegedly make a u-turn and take the lady to an apartment he rented and raped her.
After
raping the lady, he would reportedly ransack her belongings, steal any
valuable he could lay his hands, after which he would leave her to her
fate.
His albatross came when he picked a lady
which he kept for five days, raping her continuously in her unconscious
state the whole time.
At the end of the fifth day, he was alleged to have removed the N50,000 he found in her bag and left.
Two
days later, the lady woke up and raised the alarm, which made
neighbours to rush towards her to assist her. The lady informed the
police that she had gathered the money stolen by Isah to take home for
the treatment of her sick mother before she fell into his trap.
When
interrogated by the police, Buruku confessed to the crime, admitting
that he had carnal knowledge of the lady and also stole N50,000 from
her, after which he ran to Ilorin, Kwara State to hide.
