The largely illiterate inhabitants of an Indian
village called Aligarh in the Uttar Pradesh district, now have a new
goddess which they worship in the form of a baby girl born with a deformity resembling an elephant trunk, reports Asian News.
The
villagers believe that the baby which was born on March 26th, is a
divine incarnation of an elephant-headed god named Ganesha.
Though
doctors have told told the villagers that the girl's deformity could be
as a result of a genetic mutation and with extensive surgery her
condition can be reversed, they would have none of it as they see in her
a divine arrival of the god.
Her aunt Rajani told Asian News:
"My
sister-in-law gave birth to a girl and her face looks exactly like Lord
Ganesha. Everybody is saying she is an incarnation of the god. This is
why whoever hears about her is coming here to get a glimpse of the baby
and are making whatever offerings possible."
