A married man, Owolati Tajudeen, who thought he
was playing smart with his wife by secretly marrying five other women
behind her back, got a shock when the wife, Laide Owolati, carefully
planned and at the right time, bathed him with hot water.
Laide who was dragged to an Abuja Area Court in Lugbe, in the Federal Capital Territory, confessed to the act, saying her husband desecrated the sanctity of their marriage by contracting five other marriages without letting her know.
The Judge, Gambo Garba, however, handed her a three-month prison term but with an option of N5, 000 fine.
Laide pleaded guilty and begged the court to tamper justice with mercy for the sake of her six-month old baby.
"Please
sir, don’t send me to jail because of my six months old baby. I am so
sorry for what I did; it was the devil that lured me into this act. I
will not do it again.
I just discovered
that my husband has other five wives without my consent. When I
confronted him, he started beating me and I had injuries all over my
body.
So, when I was washing my face with hot water, he came and started beating me. In the process the hot water poured on him."
But
the husband, Owolati, told the court that Laide was aware of his other
wives and was angry when one of them visited Abuja from Lagos
unannounced.
