Tope Akintade was brought before an Apapa Magistrate Court for allegedly raping and impregnating his 13-year-old neighbour.
Lagos police have arraigned a 27-year-old man, Tope Akintade, for raping and impregnating a 13-year-old neighbour.
Tope
Akintade the court learnt raped the unnamed teenager in November 2014
at their resident on Baale Street, Agboju, Kuje in the Amuwo area of
Lagos State.
The 13-year-old who is an orphan was
said to be washing plates and other kitchen items when Akintade lured
her into his room and raped her.
According to Punch, the aunt of the victim revealed that the 13-year-old girl reported to her that Akintade was “playing roughly with her” and she warned her to be careful.
The aunt was oblivious of the rape as the victim did not report the case.
The victim however disclosed this when it was noticed that she was pregnant.
A pregnancy test revealed that she was three months pregnant.
The rapist, Tope Akintade was eventually arrested by men of the police attached to the Satellite Police Division.
The suspect according to reports admitted to raping the girl in his statement and was charged to court.
A prosecutor, Olusoji Ojaokomo, arraigned him before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court on two counts of rape.
“That
you, Tope Akintade, 27, on Baale Street, Agboju, Satellite Town, Kunje,
Amuwo, Lagos, in the Apapa Magisterial District, did defile one
Beatrice by having canal knowledge of her and thereby committed an
offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State
of Nigeria, 2011. That you, Tope Akintade, did indecently assault
Beatrice by touching her private parts and thereby committed an offence
punishable under Section 134 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of
Nigeria, 2011,” the charges read.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty before the magistrate, Mrs. O.I. Adelaja.
The case was adjourned till Monday, March 23.
