The Turkish Football Federation have announced the suspension of the SuperLig following the gun attack on Fenerbahce team bus.
The Fenebahce team bus on Saturday, April 4 came under armed attack as it drove to Trabzon airport after a 5-1 victory over Rizespor in the Turkish Super Lig.
Local
police say the shots came from a rifle, with damage visible on the bus,
while the driver was wounded and taken to hospital.
After
the attack, the club called on the country's football authorities to
suspend the league and now after a meeting with the sports minister on
Monday, the TFF has announced the suspension of the league for one week.
"We believe the incident was a terrorist attack, targeting not only Fenerbahce but Turkish sports," said TFF chairman Yildirim Demiroren.
"We decided to postpone all league and cup games for a week."
In a statement on the TFF website, sports minister Akif Cagatay Kilic said the bus driver, named as Ufuk Kiran, was 'recovering quickly'.
Fernerbahce's Turkish Cup quarter-final against Mersin İdman Yurdu on Tuesday had already been postponed following the attack.
