Huang Yizi an outspoken pastor, was sentenced
to jail for opposing Zhejiang province's intense campaign to remove
crosses from churches. Provincial authorities pulled down 400 crosses from the rooftop of churches, saying they violated the building code.
Some
sources say the Christian faith has been the target of the ruling
communist party, because of its rapid growth and growing influence.
At press time, Zhang Kai-Huang Yizi’s lawyer via a telephone conversation, told Associate Press(AP) that
his client was put on the stand for 6hours and the court of the city of
Pingyang found Huang guilty of gathering crowds to disrupt social
order. He was sentenced to one year in prison.
Huang says he does not regret his action, while calling on local church leaders should put back the toppled crosses.
