David Carr; Celebrated New York Times columnist dies suddenly at 58

New York Times columnist, David Carr died on Thursday, February 12, at 58.
Carr is said to have suddenly collapsed at the paper’s newsroom on Thursday, February 12.
Popular New York Times columnist, David Carr has died at the age of 58, the paper reports.
Carr is said to have suddenly collapsed at the paper’s newsroom on Thursday, February 12.
He was rushed to the St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Carr, joined the Times in 2002, wrote the widely read “Media Equation” column that appeared in the Monday business section of the paper and focused on "media as it intersects with business, culture and government.”
"He was the finest media reporter of his generation, a remarkable and funny man who was one of the leaders of our newsroom," Times’ Executive Editor, Dean Baquet said in response to his death.
Carr overcame a long battle with drug addiction to become one of the most recognizable and respected journalists in the US.
He is survived by his wife Jill Rooney Carr and three daughters, Maddie, Erin and Meagan.
